making a killing - part 3 film crew |
The wreck of Miss Piggy, a C-46 Commando, on the Hudson Bay shore. This plane allegedly wrecked due to mechanical troubles in November 1979. Shortly after take-off, the plane experienced mechanical problems and was returning to the Churchill airport. It was not able to make it. It landed only meters from the Shore and a few kilometers short of the airport. alternative shot here: http://www.zooomr.com/photos/metrognome/3955786/

These people comprise a Welsh documentary film crew that were staying at the CNSC (Churchill Northern Studies Centre) to document the polar bear migration. they were very charming people who added a special element to an already extraordinary experience. at this particular moment, they were documenting the result a polar bear "attack" on a sled dog the previous night (shown in the previous image). of course, it wasn't an attack at all. it was a feeding. And it could have been prevented if weren't for the willful negligence of the owner.

Sneak Up Behind |
the trajic result of an unscrupulous business owner in Churchill. The person officially raises sled dogs but, for a fee, will also permit people on his property to see polar bears. Apparently, this little business venture works because he baits the bears. sadly, one of the things he uses to bait bears are his sled dogs (see the red pulp in front of the second dog house from the left). large

Young polar bears, probably siblings, sparring. as with all animals, particularly with top-tier predators such as these bears, they are inseparable from their environment. they are part of it. they depend on it and it depends on them. i used a wide angle lens to bring in as much of the surround habitat as possible, not just to highlight the desolate environment but to demonstrate the bears' solitude as well. i chose to use the rule of 3rds in framing to also include the tire tracks in the foreground showing the heavy influence of mankind as well.
