2009 photo challenge, day 39 - beer
Great Lakes Brewery generates a half dozen or so year-round beers. On site at their pub, they also feature a fair number of special brews. In addition, Great Lakes release number of limited, seasonal, handcrafted beers. Most of their brews are named in such a way as to connect with Cleveland. Many are named for historic figures (e.g., Elliot Ness) or events (e.g., the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald). One of the seasonal brews debuted in 2004 in recognition of the 2003 blackout which affected Ohio along with Michigan, Pennsylvania, and New York. It is the Blackout Stout. i prefer to think that it's name has dual meaning. it's totally black. no light escapes it...one of my personal favorites.
I harbor a certain comradery with this moniker as, during the blackout, my friends and i took it upon ourselves to rescue as many beers as possible from spoiling as the coolers and refrigerators of the region warmed. such a tragic loss. i only wish i could have saved more of them.
