We got a new kitten. Or rather, he got us. Jack, as we've dubbed him, wandered onto the farm and decided to stay. He could probably supply power to half the city with his very smelly methane emissions and his infinite supply of kinetic energy. This is one of the few times he wasn't running around in circles attacking inanimate objects.

These ants have invaded my apartment, and It's a species I'm not familiar with. After some quick research I believe it's Linepithema humile, the Argentine ant.
They smell when you smash 'em.

I just got back from a trip to Lake Tahoe. For the first time ever, I used my film camera more than my digital camera. This is the only digital shot that's worth posting. We'll see what I get when I develop my film.

This huge, lumbering male was probably about 2 inches across. He didn't take crap from nobody, especially me. I nudged him with a stick and he fought back.

If you live in the Bay Area, you may have heard about a dreaded insect that could wipe out the Napa Valley wine industry. That insect is called the glassy-winged sharpshooter, and it carries Pierce's disease, a deadly bacterium that kills grapevines. There's been a huge ad campaign that keeps the public aware of the danger. So far this insect has only been found once in Napa, and for a few minutes I thought I had found the second. Fortunately this isn't the glassy-winged sharpshooter but some other type of leafhopper that isn't a threat to our lovely crop, the grape.
